I wasn’t always like this when I woke up.
You know how it is when you are starting to come to in the wee hours of the morning, like around nine AM and are trying to put together what day it might be. And there is that twinkle of dread lurking before you come to realize as you squish up your pillow and flip over, that you don’t have to get up.
That you don’t have to go to work.
You really are retired.
That is when you sit up and look a lot like this crazy last bloom of the season.
Much like the flower.
I am past my prime.
My petals are falling off.
And I get it.
The world is upside down.
Never the less, it is Fall.
The season that comes bursting in with it’s vibrant colors, warm sunshine and frost.
“What will I do today?” I asked myself, throwing a sweatshirt from the floor over my head.
All kinds of projects came rushing at me.
Before diving into anything serious, it is important for you and your mug of coffee and your dog and your cat to go for a stroll to get your Zen on. And to take care of business.
Soon after this morning's walk.
In came a text.
And.
Well.
I glanced out the window.
“It’s too windy to rake.”
I remembered my resolve to start on the basement.
“It’s not going to kill Grandma Meow to wait one more day for her apartment makeover.”
But.
“I will write a best seller tomorrow.”
Right now, I need to fix my hair and glue a couple petals back on.
Because I have been invited to go out and enjoy the day.
I am just grateful to still have a few petals left.
